Although our church is comprised of a group of very faithful folks who are committed to Jesus and doing good, we definitely have our faults. I believe the closest we relate to a church in Revelation is the letter written to Pergamum. While I don't believe that anyone is blatantly following the teaching of other gods, or pagan religions, I do believe we too, live in the "place of Satan" and temptation is all around us. Some of the things that I have seen over the years that people fall into blindly are: Reiki, or energy healing, fortune/future telling (Long Island medium Theresa Caputo, Sylvia Browne tv shows) , meditation (on something other than scripture- this can include some forms of yoga), charms or candles to ward off certain "spirits" (this classifies as witchcraft) and astrology/Tarot Cards.
I have mentioned only a few of the seemingly innocent "forms of entertainment" but that is where folks can get caught up. Satan rarely tempts us with something outrageous, he typically draws us into something a little at a time, often when we are unaware. We must be very careful when we live in a world that belongs to the enemy, an enemy who would like nothing more than to see us in activities that repulse and displease our Lord.
As it is said in Revelation 2:16, we must repent! Not just those who dabble in occult or occult like behaviors, but each of us need to repent of any sin that is displeasing to God. For the most part, I believe we do hold fast to Jesus, his name and his teachings. But it is SO EASY to stray, especially in today's age of social media, and anything and everything being a keyboard touch away. One action we can take is to pray for guidance so we do not fall prey to Satan's traps. Not just in church, but every single day, when we wake, give the day to the Lord, commit it to Him, and pray for guidance that we do not fall into any trap, that the Lord will protect our minds and bodies from evil, that we may do good and be a blessing. We should also pray this for our families as well.
