Some scholars believe that the seven churches that receive letters in the book of Revelation are emblematic of different periods in church history, while others believe that we can see certain characteristics of these churches throughout the centuries. Following the belief that we might see these characteristics in different churches throughout the centuries, which church described in Revelation 2-3 is closest to the church you attend? Compare and contrast some of the characteristics of your church to one of the seven churches, and then describe one action point you can take to follow the advice of Jesus given to that church. You are welcome to respond to other students, but this is not necessary for this final post.

The church that I find "most" like mine is the Church in Ephesus. As I read over each of the churches to find the characteristics most like mine I am reminded that this year our church is celebrating 175 years of service. In the Scripture for the Church of Ephesus it states "I know your hard work and your perseverance." That entire statement is something that stuck out the most to me. We have been striving not to be the "best" but to be what God has called us to be. It later goes on to say that because we have been so obedient we are also faulted for that. Just because we are doing good deeds of service does not mean we are repenting for past wrong-doings during the processes. The action point I am taking back for the church is to repent and we must remember how high we have fallen in the past. Through the years we have learned what has "worked" and what has not lead us into the "right" path.
